B-Sides: The Supervoid Choral Ensemble

You might not know this, but I actually got my start in “professional” photography as a concert photographer. Photographing bands is still a huge passion of mine, and I even contribute to a couple of online music publications. Plus I’ll sometimes go out and take photos of bands just for myself for fun! As such, I often end up with photos from awesome bands but nowhere to post them. That’s why I decided to start B-Sides, an ongoing series of blog posts where I share some of my favorite never-before-seen concert photos that I’ve taken over the years.

To start this off right, I decided I’ll share my photos of The Supervoid Choral Ensemble from their NYC at Gold Sounds back in February. This instrumental-metal duo is a supergroup in their own right that features Ben Sharp of Cloudkicker on guitar, and Vinny Roseboom of Gospel on drums. The show was packed with fans, and I felt fortunate to have worked my way into a front row spot by getting to the venue early. That said, it was so crowded that I couldn’t move around at all during their set, so I could only take photos from one spot. However, I truly believe that “constraints breed creativity”, and on that night I did indeed find some creative ways to get a variety of different angles and shots.
